We bring you the third leak off Wiz’s upcoming mixtape Flight School. We all know Younh Khalifa is a dope freestyler, but he is also quite adept at incorporating techno/trance beats into his music. Everyone remembers “Say Yeah.”

This track is anthem about “getting some”, in this case that means money.  And in these times, who isn’t trying to get some dollars.

Flight School is dropping later this month..hopefully.  Below peep a live performance of the new song.

That’s right.  We said it.

They’ve been praised for their amazing performance that would have you telling your friends you work on Friday nights because you don’t want them to realize that this is the 6th time your gonna see ArtOfficial.

If you don’t trust us, we should let you know how hurt we feel and hook up with your best friend, but instead, you can just check out a sample song below.

Tabi Bonney the Politician?
March 30, 2009

dcstatehoodfront-elitaste

We all know Tabi Bonney as the ill lyricist behind the Dope album, but he his now taking his local and national fame to the steps of Congress.

Bonney will team up with other local artists this  Wednesday to lobby Congress for the under-represented areas of the nation’s capitol.  Tabi will headline the free “Equal Footing” concert to be held at the west steps of the Capitol building on 1st starting starting at 5:30pm.

In recent years many artists have used their name recongition to ignite political activism and community service in their areas (although some have done so under court order).  Tabi had this to say about the focus of the event:

The political interest, it started, I would say with the Clintons, you saw little inklings of it, but definitely since the whole Barack Obama movement… you just see the movement of younger people carrying it and feeling that it’s something important, that we can all indeed make a difference.

So if you feel Tabi’s message and want to support it, or simply want to attend a free concert at the Capitol building be sure to check it out on April 1st, 5:30pm.

SXSW Cypher- Exile, Charles Hamilton, Mistah FAB, Donny Goines & Shad.
March 29, 2009

It appears to be Youtube video night here at KTBN, and yes, this is more footage from SXSW, but after a watching it twice we deemed it postable material.

Aided by Exile’s beatboxing (sometimes he doesn’t even need his tables, he’s just that ill), these four cats freestyle in the rain, because why the hell not, its SXSW.

But, at least, we can bring you dope footage from the show.  Enjoy

Kanye Forgets Lyrics at SXSW Concert.
March 26, 2009

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Kanye West is human.

I hope we’re not he first ones to break you the news … but we may be the first ones to show you the evidence.

Above, you’ll find Ye forgetting the lyrics a number of times while performing “Good Life” at the Fader x Levi’s tent at SXSW. After a failed attempt at a quick series of ad libs, the Chicago rapper turns to his entourage for help.

A man behind the DJ booth tries to feed Yeezy the lyrics and then all of the G.O.O.D. Music artists (i.e. Kid Cudi, Consequence, Big Sean) storm the stage to help out their boss.

And you thought all entourages did was wear huge pieces of jewelry and maintain a stink face all day.

KiD CuDi and Bobby Ray Discuss Un-Retirement.
March 24, 2009

Apologies if you are getting sick of updates related to SXSW, but it was a huge music festival that essentially featured every big name in rap today.

Amidst rumors/statements of their retirement from the rap game, after only one album a piece, Cudders and the artist formerly known as B.o.B, talk about their decisions to stay in the game.  Basically, it’s for the fans, in the words of CuDi:

Fans be the realest motherfuckers, I really do fuck with my fans, and like more than the industry motherfuckers, you know what I’m sayin.

Yes, we do you what your saying, and we can also tell that this interview took place at the Smoking Section after SXBW.

In related news, we showed you footage of CuDi and the G.O.O.D music family’s showcase, and CuDi had this to say about his performance:

I was extremely drunk when I performed at the Red Bull Event at SXSW…Red Bull and Vodka is amazing.

Anyways, it’s good to know that both CuDi and Bobby Ray aka B.o.B, are committed to staying in the game for years to come and that they will be doing it for the fans.  In that vain, do your part as a fan, and support their respective albums, Man on the Moon: The Guardians and The Adventures of B.o.B [Bobby Ray?], when they come out this summer.

Asher Roth – Just Listen (Acapella)

Check out a video of “Just Listen,” easily one of the most memorable tracks on Asher Roth’s The Greenhouse Effect.

We’re curious to see how successful Asher Roth’s upcoming album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle, out on 4/20 is, but if you’re doubting his skills this should help sway you in his favor. Stop hating on the white rapper that sounds like Em, and just listen.

Vampire Weekend- White Sky (Video).
March 20, 2009

Ivy League rockers Vampire Weekend debuted a new song presumably from their yet-to-be-titled sophomore album on the Jimmy Fallon Show earlier this week.

Full of airy melodies, ornate percussion and string arrangements, “White Sky” brims with the accents that defined Vampire Weekend’s quirky, West African-inspired sound on their first album.

Hopefully, they will stick to this sound as we hear more material leading up to the release of their new album. Let us know what you think.

Asher Roth- Be By Myself (Live).
March 8, 2009

Asher Roth feat. Cee-Lo- Be By Myself (Live).

The weekend lull has hit us all pretty hard, plus depending on where you live, the weather has been rediculously nice, so you may not have even been spending time pouring over your computer as usual.

Anyway, this the kid Ash Roth performing at Toad’s Place in New Haven (where CuDi first performed “The Sky Might Fall” and “Mr. Solo Dolo”).

He performed several tracks off his upcoming album Asleep in the Bread Aisle, dropping on 4/20 (I wonder why he chose that date?).

Other tracks he performed off the album included “Blunt Cruise,” “La Di Da,” and “She Don’t Want a Man.”

Enjoy this vid and get ready as the new week is sure to bring us a ton of hot new music.
