DJ Homicide – The Hangover.
May 5, 2010

DJ Homicide – The Hangover. Download HERE.

Damn it. We really wanted to wait till Friday night to post this track.

Unfortunately for us, beers completely trump willpower. Fortunately for you, you get to listen to this golden little nugget Thursday night AND Friday night AND Saturday night as you pregame/party.

Some of you may try turning this on while you all are at work.

Just don’t be surprised when everyone’s dancing around the office naked and no work’s getting done.

We wouldn’t advise you to do anything that we haven’t already tried ourselves. That’s why Senor Reyes and Z-Silly have come up with a three-step process for optimal enjoyment of the track above.

1) Press play.

2) Watch this video on mute and dance accordingly.

3) Please don’t dance like that.

Thank us later.

You should know this by now.

Diggy Simmons – Diggy What.
April 28, 2010

Diggy Simmons – Diggy What. Download HERE.

Has Diggy started drinking the family Kool Aid or does this swag just come with puberty?

(If it’s the former, his older brother JoJo needs to start chugging immediately. His group Team Blackout was the epitome of FAIL.)

The 15-year-old son of Rap’s Family deserves a tip of the hat. Since the release of the video for his “Made You Look Freestyle,” everyone’s been eagerly waiting to see what he does next.

With this quick retouch of Jay-Z’s “N**** What,” Dig shows us that he’s headed in the right direction.

The track above is just one of many that will be featured on young Simmons’ next mixtape. Now, do yourself a favor and watch the video below (after the jump).

The Chiddy Bang Theory.
April 22, 2010

Chiddy Bang – Under the Sheets. From Air Swell mixtape.

We’ve got a good feeling about these two … and you’ll be quick to hop on the same page.

The duo was picked as mtvU’s Freshmen of the Week a couple of weeks back for their video below (after the jump). Finally. A refreshing take on one of the most overly-remixed songs of 2009, right?

Dubbed “the hipster’s wet dream,” Chiddy Bang is comprised of Chidera “Proto” Anamege (Chiddy) and Xaphoon Jones. It’s important to note that while we’re drawn to the Philly-based group for its lyricism, the production is just as much of a draw.

Chiddy Bang’s another prime example of how hip hop is becoming increasingly educated. Proto and Xaphoon first met at Drexel and have been churning out whispering eye-wetting tracks since.

Misters Anamege and Jones recently released their mixtape Air Swell (which was exclusively dropped in the UK). Download it HERE.

Word has it that the tracks were recorded as the two traveled back and forth from our crumpet-harboring neighbor island across the pond.

If nothing else, give them a chance as these two are probably the only reason Paul McCartney’s song “Ebony & Ivory” is still relevant today.

Big Sean- UKNOWBIGSEAN (Mixtape).
April 20, 2009

Don’t know about you, but we have been waiting for Big Sean to drop this mixtape for a while now.  And in the slight oversight, missed the fact that it actually did drop when we leaked two tracks the other day. Download HERE.

Might as well go right to the source for the download,, not to mention we’re all a little lazy at times.

The Dirty D native is really starting to make a name for himself.  He’s got the talent.  Oh and its not such a bad thing to have Kanye and Mike Posner in your corner either.

Sean hits you with some full versions of snippets that were on his Finally Famous mixtape, as well as some Matter of Time stuff, but no worries, the tape is 30 tracks long.

If he has that much lying around the studio, we can’t wait for the debut album to hit stores, sooner rather than later.

Big Sean feat. Dusty McFly- Iraq

Big  Sean feat. Jay-K- Paper Chaser.

Tracklist after the jump. Yip.

Wiz Khalifa- Flight School (Mixtape).
April 20, 2009

We’ve been talking about this mixtape and dropping leaks for weeks now, but the real thing has finally dropped.  Wiz goes in real hard on this 22 track mixtape.

He displays some definite versatilty with techno-charged songs like “Get Sum,” and he also throws some curveballs at you with some despised autotune, and even a little H-Town slowed down flow on some tracks.  But as always you can expect to hear some fire music.

Don’t sleep on the Wiz or the mixtape.  Download HERE or buy it through his MySpace page if you feel so compelled. Tracklist after the jump as always kids.

Wiz Khalifa- Name on a Cloud.

Wiz Khalifa- Never Ever.

Chester French – Jacques Jams, Vol. 1: Endurance.
April 8, 2009

Chester French & Clinton Sparks – Love Game Remix (ft. Lady GaGa)

Chester French & Clinton Sparks – Starting A Band – Two Mans (ft. Solange)

Chester French & Clinton Sparks – I’m So Tall (ft. Bun B., Talib Kweli & Mickey Factz)

Chester French has really gone out of its way to point out how this isn’t a mixtape. It’s a free album.

With 24 tracks and collabs with legends and soon-to-be hip hop royalty, it really doesn’t matter what you call this damn thing. Just listen to it.

According to D.A. and Max, Jacques Jams, Vol. 1: Endurance chronicles the past six years of their lives. It’s also the first new music the duo have released since 2007. From the Harvard campus to the office of Pharrell Williams.

Sounds like a dream, right? Well. It’s just another day in the life of Chester French.

This free album would have never come to fruition if it wasn’t for the persistence of DJ Clinton Sparks. The Harvard grads agreed to create it because C. Sparks just wouldn’t stop pestering them.

Guest spots: Jermaine Dupri, Diddy, Pharrell, Pusha, Talib Kweli, Bun B., The Mad Rapper, Kardinal Offishall, N.O.R.E, Jadakiss, Janelle Monae, Cassie, Wale, Solange, Lady Gaga, and Mickey Factz.

Enough said. Download the entire thing HERE.  Tracklist after the jump, per usual.

Christian Rich – Countdown.
April 8, 2009

Christian Rich – Countdown (U.S. Single). Download HERE.

After Kehinde (one half of Christian Rich) sent us this track today, we asked him how he was doing.

“Extremely well. God is good.” You can’t really get any better than that. Let us explain why.

Kehinde and his twin brother, Taiwo, actually immigrated to the U.S. from the Nigerian slums. Their living conditions were so bad that sewer pipes literally ran through their home. It probably didn’t help that at the age of six, the twins’ mother became extremely sick.

We spent a good chunk of our childhood there; enough to remember the hardships. That experience made us who we are right now. We saw so many negative, as well as positive things, that when we came to the States it was a joke to us.

Screw The Great Gatsby. Christian Rich is the new face of the American Dream … with a hip hop twist.

Adapting the group’s name from famed designer Christian Dior, Taiwo’s “Christian” (since he’s the main face of the duo’s music) while Kehinde’s “Rich” (as he takes care of all the business). Get it?

While both brothers produce all of the beats and vocals together, they think it’s better to give their audience just one person to focus on. Kehinde explains:

I noticed when there is one person to focus on, people’s attention span is longer and they assimilate to that better. Whenever there’s a duo, one of them goes solo anyway.

Now that you know Christian Rich a bit better, you’re going to appreciate their music even more.

If you like what you hear, download their Decay Mixtape HERE.

Dude Royal: He’s Just That Kewl Negro.
April 8, 2009

Mikey Rocks x Dude Royal x Hollywood Holt- This Shit is Easy. Download HERE.

The above track was released a few weeks ago, featuring Mikey Rocks of The Cool Kids and Dude Royal.  You’re probably thinking “who’s Dude Royal” Well, as any trip to his MySpace of Facebook page will show you, Dude Royal is not your run of the mill rapper.

Michael “Dude Royal” Hooks resides in Encino, CA, and he’s the son of the Prison Break producer. He cites Gucci Mane has his only influence and his band interest is “befriending white girls around the world”.

Oh, did we mention the beat for “This Shit is Easy” is a Dude Royal original?  Now you’re definitely intrigued.

Very few hands have held a copy of his first unreleased album, Loopdy Doops, Woops, & Swoodles (download it HERE.) On this album, Hooks takes on three different rap personas: Vader Ganchos, Carey Skywalker, and of  course Dude Royal.  The short tracks and funky beats grow on you, just ask anyone in the Valley or Ann Arbor.

Through various connections, Dude landed in the studio with Mikey Rocks and booked a performance at SXBW.  Having his foot officially in the door of legitimate hip-hop, Dude Royal has stepped up his dedication and is currently working on his sophomore album, 818s & Heartbreaks.

Only time will tell whether Dude Royal can reach rap royalty … but he has certainly made big strides. You can be assured that he will not lose that “kewl negro” sound that has gotten him this far.

Hit the jump for early Dude Royal tracks and of course the tracklist. We haven’t done our job if you don’t.

April 7, 2009

Chester French feat. Diddy & Jadakiss- Ciroc Star. Download HERE.

What’s a Ciroc Star? It’s what you get when you combine Chester French, Diddy, and Jadakiss on one track.

To promote their upcoming album, Love the Future, Chester French teamed up with Clinton Sparks to bring you a star-studded mixtape called Get Familiar With Chester French: Jacques Jams Vol. 1: Endurance.

Before the mixtape drops for free at, the duo dropped a single from the tape that features Jadakiss and Diddy, appropriately named “Ciroc Star.”

The 25 track, seven “chapter” mixtape will be available tomorrow for download here. So, keep it locked. As if Chester French wasn’t enough, guest appearances are made by Common, Pusha T, Mickey Factz, N.O.R.E, Pharrell, and Talib Kweli to name just a few.

Marky- Nothing is 43ver (Mini-Album).
April 3, 2009

Welcome to Markyland.

Let us introduce you to 19-year old Washington D.C. native Marcus “Marky” Plater and his newest project, an 11 track “mini-album,” Nothing is 43ver. Download it HERE.

Despite the drug and gang violence that surrounded him growing up in Northeast DC, Marky kept to himself and by-passed the street life for something more real.  Rapping since the age of 13, his dedication paid off when his rhymes attracted the attention of Studio 43 CEO Kenny Burns, who signed him and told him:

I’m gonna put you in the studio with and see what we can come up with.

Nothing is 43ver showcases Marky as a visionary storyteller whose songs are inspired by true-life hardships that resonate a number of different messages.  As a product of the nation’s capital, he has the edge and the street cred to reach out to the hip-hip purist and thug, the surburbs and the streets all … at once.  In their review of the album, Illvibes says:

In a time where mixtapes drop every minute and every hour of the day … Marky is offering something different, a mini-album. In a time where songs are crafted on a formulaic basis … Marky is offering something different: his heart on every track.

With more and more artists from the DMV creating a buzz and gaining national attention, Marky holds it down and accentuates a point we here at KTBN have been trying to press:  2009 is the year of the District, so DMV, stand up!  Try out some Marky below and hit the jump for the album cover, tracklist, and more.

Once again, welcome to Markyland.
