This Is How You Have Yourself A Cry.
April 26, 2010

Rumor has it that this was the same reaction T-Pain’s father gave when he saw his wife pop out a baby rocking Oakley shades and a top hat out from between her legs.

Wait for the 0:16 mark. Trust us.

And if you haven’t seen the original, you need to see it. You’ll appreciate it so much more. Watch it HERE.

The Game – Shake (Travis Barker Remix).

The Game – Shake (Travis Barker Remix). Download HERE.

Look at him. Just … look at him. He’s probably the one person that none of our parents wanted us to hang out with when we were growing up.

And that’s exactly why we love Travis Barker so much.

It’s been confirmed that Barker will be producing Paul Wall’s next album in its entirety. Everyone knows that the former Blink-182 drummer has been a trusted ally on the hip hop front. That’s why we’re excited to see him jump head first over onto the dark side.

Also, please note how The Game continues to run his mouth about 50 Cent. Cute.

Me and 50 ain’t agree on shit, so I had to *shake*
Ain’t no tellin’ what he’s putting in that protein *shake*

It’s like trying to tell your 102-year-old grandfather that the Vietnam War is over.

Stay relevant, grandpa!

Lykke Li – Dance Dance Dance (Grandtheft RMX).

Lykke Li – Dance Dance Dance (Grandtheft RMX). Download HERE (Right click and press “save as”).

Lykke Li (pronounced “Licky Lee”) kind of sounds like your modern-day Alanis Morissette. Only, she’s actually cool and relevant.

And attractive. Sorry, Alanis.

The Swedish indie pop artist is thankfully a successful product of the blogosphere. Much like many of today’s artists, she made a name for herself by posting songs on her MySpace page.

Her quirky singing voice is often backed by a bass that’s heavy enough to make it tingle in all of the right places. Catchy hooks and labido-enticing beats. What more can you really ask for.

After a well celebrated debut album (entitled Little Bit) in 2007, Ms.  Li now finds herself signed to an independent label by the name of LL Recordings and making rather regular appearances on the Swedish MTV.

Don’t sleep on this one, ladies and gentlemen. As much as we love saying “we told you so,” we’re more partial to uttering …

Pro’Verb- DMV Hero.

Pro’Verb- DMV Hero. Download HERE.

Ace Da Vinci went in over “Brooklyn Girls” to create at Chi-Town Spring Anthem and now we got one for the DMV too.

Pro’Verb goes hard over Nas’ track “Hero” and lays down what we shall call for now, the 2009 DMV anthem.

Unfortunately, it’s great music like this that you won’t hear on the radio. However, fear not.  We’re completely dedicated to bringing you the best music you have yet to hear … but NEED to hear.

KiD CuDi x Kanye West x Common- I Poke Her Face (CDQ).
April 5, 2009

KiD CuDi feat. Kanye West and Common- I Poke Her Face CDQ.  Download HERE.

As promised, the CDQ version for the song featuring three superstars is out …  along with a name change from the original Lady GaGa “Poker Face” to the more hilarious, “I Poke Her Face.”

A-Trak does the ripping for this joint, which includes odes or references to at least four other songs including “I Love College” and “Whatever You Like.”

Rumors are floating that this song is from Cudders’ CD, but we doubt it. Quite honestly, no matter how dope CuDi’s and Ye’s verses are, we would be quite disappointed to see remixed Lady GaGa appear on Cudi’s debut album.

No offense to Ms. GaGa .

QuESt- The Aware Lyric.

QuESt- The Aware Lyric. Download HERE.

With Nero taking a hiatus to work on his homies’ side projects, it’s nice to hear the kid QuESt drop a single for us.  It feels like forever since Distant Travels Into Soul Theory dropped.

Although the two aforementioned rappers did recently go in nicely on “The Sky Might Fall.”

Anyways, QuESt chooses another G.O.O.D music joint to go over. This time “Flight School” gets the treatment.  Look out for Broken Headphones dropping July 28th … it’s sure to be dope.

The Cool Kids x Asher Roth- Black Mags Remix.
April 4, 2009

Yes. More video from SXBW, but this is just pure dopeness.

Ash Roth hops on stage with The Cool Kids to perform “Black Mags,” off their album, The Bake Sale.  Mikey Rocks and Chuck still get in their verses and Ash tops it off with his own verse that he featured on The Greenhouse Effect.  Check it out below.

HipHopOfficial does an official job shooting the performance, from the crystal clear picture to the range of video effects.  Shouts.

The Five One x Jay-Z x Max Romeo- Lucifer Remix.
April 2, 2009

The Five One x Jay-Z x Max Romeo- Lucifer Remix. Download HERE.

This week’s Deuce Burger is inspired by the Kanye beat for Jay-Z’s track “Lucifer’ off the Black Album.  The group cuts up the beat and does what they do best: add some thought-provoking lyrics (not that Hova doesn’t do the same).

Also, how dope is that cover art for this week’s remix? Very, in our opinion.

Anyway, be sure to give the song a good listen to appreciate the distinct delivery that has become The Five One’s specialty during this remix album.  As always be sure to check out as well.

Nipsey Hussle: Just Playing With The Game.
March 26, 2009

Nipsey Hussle feat. Jay Rock & Maino- Hussle in the House (Remix). Download HERE.

Above we have, the official remix of Nipsey Hussle’s song “Hussle in the House.” Haven’t heard of Nipsey yet, let us do the honors.

When artists call their music “gangsta” rap and that they’re to “doin’ it to rep Cali, South Central Yo,” it’s usually just plain not true. Most of the time the artist ends up being a correctional officer (cough cough) or something reminiscent of that final battle scene in 8 Mile.  Well, Nipsey’s a different story.

He’s a devout member of the Rolling Sixty Crips, and maintains his loyalty while simultaneously having a burgeoning rap career.

I try to keep a balance with my career and who I am aside from that. It’s kinda hard, but I try to stay the same nigga and balance both worlds. You don’t wanna forget where you come from and at the same time, you don’t wanna fuck off your blessing tryna live the same lifestyle you been living.

By age 13, he knew the inner workings of a studio, music was his passion, but the streets were his home.  At one point he sold all his possessions (rims, chains, and the like) to invest in his own studio.

It has seemingly paid off, because after several mixtapes and steadily gaining recognition as a West Coast banger, Nipsey is on tour and getting verses from The Game, who has been touting the duo has the next Snoop and Dre.  Don’t believe us, take a listen after the jump.

If you’re starting to dig his style, hit the jump for more info, mixtape downloads and another track featuring The Game.  West West Y’all!

Nice & Smooth x Pac Div – Funky for You ’09.

Nice and Smooth x Pac Div- Funky For You ’09. Download HERE.

This is the second installment of Smirnoff shameless ad campaign to associate its 13 dollar fifth’s of flavored vodka with revamped classic hip-hop.

But, as long as it results in a couple good songs, like the first one did, we don’t mind.

So, go buy a bottle and see if this song makes you think of Smirnoff.

The Five One x Bob Marley- Waiting In Vain (Remix)
March 25, 2009

The Five One x Bob Marley- Waiting in Vain (Remix). Download HERE.

It’s not quite Deuce Day EST, but seeing as how we were late on it last week, posting early won’t hurt.

Besides, Green emailed us a couple hours ago with the joint so here is your weekly Deuce Burger to chow on.

The Five One goes Caribbean with this one and remixes the Bob Marley (R.I.P) song “Waiting In Vain.”  The smooth reggae beat provides a great template for the Reston, VA group to do its thing.

We say it every week, but keep an eye out for a) The Five One’s summer tour and b) another exclusive KTBN video interview expected to show up early this summer.

Nero- Cherish Every Moment.
March 25, 2009

Nero- Cherish Every Moment. Download HERE.

We’ve hit you with various dope Nero songs, often aided by his homie QuESt, over the past couple of weeks, and it is hard to deny that this 16-year-old rapper is talented.

Less than 24 hours after Ash Roth released “Lark on My Go Kart” from his Asleep in the Bread Aisle album, Nero went in on that too.

Nero- Angie on My Go-Kart. Download HERE.

As many many artists have done, the teen phenom goes in over Kanye’s “Say You Will” beat, and properly titles the track “Cherish Every Moment,” as this may be the last we here from Nero for a while.

After putting out several hot songs, and working with QuESt on his mixtape and their remix of “The Sky Might Fall,” Nero is taking a hiatus of sorts to help out his fellow young artists get their due recognition.

Most recently, such work including his efforts on Cleveland native TreaZon’s 9 Steps mixtape, released earlier this week, which is definitely worth a listen and can be downloaded HERE.

Bottom line is the kid is young, talented, making moves, and has the support he needs to make a serious impact in the future, so be sure to cherish the music he’s put out so far and look out for him in the future.

(The answer rhymes with “never.”)

That’s why we bring you Atlanta’s own So So Def man Jermaine Dupri with one of the most buzzworthy bands of today.

While your initial reaction to this combination of these artists might be a healthy combination of confusion and disgust, once you press “play,” everything’s going to work out.
