Wale- The Road to “Attention Deficit” Mixtape.
March 30, 2009

With the release date of Wale’s upcoming mixtape Back to the Feature set (April 29th for those of you who don’t know), the good folks over at Hip Hop Update and DC to BC put together a “best of” compilation mixtape of Wale’s work up to this point.

It features songs from his previous mixtapes, live performances, and some rare freestyles you may not have heard yet.  This is all in preparation for the release of his debut studio album Attention Deficit, which has been reported to be scheduled for release at the end of the year.

We set out to call it the “Road” to Attention Deficit (his upcoming Interscope album) because his career has been a journey thus far – so we included live audio from the UK, Australia, California, etc. that captures his journey around the world.

For an example of some unheard Wale your ears may not have had the pleasure of hearing yet listen below.

Anyway, shouts to Hip-Hop Update and DC to BC for putting this together, and download the mixtape HERE.  Tracklist after the jump.

Wale feat. Justice- W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E

Yes, this Wale song is well traveled and from his 2007 mixtape 100 Miles and Runnin’, but in light of the hot Coke commerical Justice just did for Coca-Cola and his soon to be released Back to the Feature mixtape, we thought you might enjoy the official music video.

The video itself is quite dope, and doesn’t give you seizures like the “Welcome to Heartbeark” video, and there’s nothing wrong with re-acclimating yourself with some early Wale jams.

Another quality video to check out is his first music video, “Uptown Roamers,” off Hate is the New Love.

DMV is 2009 is gonna be taking over.

Wale Performs “Chillin” in Australia.
February 16, 2009

We posted the incomplete version of this song of Wale’s upcoming album a while back, and were asked to take it down by his people, but as the release date for his mixtape and debut album approaches, it seems OK to give everyone a look.

Despite the poor video quality and dysfunctional crowd interaction, there is one very important piece of information that Wale tells the crowd.

Y’all know I got a new record coming out.  It’s coming out in the States in about a week and half.

He is presumably talking about his Back to the Feature mixtape, which would then be set for release at the beginning of March.

DC’s finest as been touring like crazy lately, around the world and up and down the West Coast, trying to get his name and the DMV out there.  Our question is, why is he wearing a Yankees hat?

For a little better quality, listen below to his performance of “Chillin” in San Francisco a couple weeks ago.

Wale f. Young Chris and Tre- Night Life.
February 9, 2009

A long awaited single from Wale’s upcoming mixtape, Back to the Feature, has finally been released and ready for your approval.

Wale once again hooks up with Young Chris, previously featured on “Searching” and “Large,” and  as we previously mentioned in the Wale Mixtape Update, Tre from UCB.

With his fifth mixtape and debut album on the way, all while touring the West Coast, Wale embodies the work ethic that defined D.C. rap.  After years of being overlooked as a legitimate source of hip-hip, the DMV is on the verge of a breakthrough in 2009.

Keep it locked to our site for upcoming features on the up-and-coming artists that the area has to offer, and in the meantime take a listen below.

Wale Mixtape Update.
January 24, 2009

If you think Obama is working hard, just take a look at what Wale is up to these days.

With his highly-anticipated debut album expected in late Spring, D.C’s finest is hard at work preparing his fourth mixtape, Back to the Feature.

The mixtape is mainly a collabo effort with producer 9th wonder.  Confirmed features include Bun-B, Curren$y, Drake, and Skyzoo.

“There might be a couple records that ain’t 9th, maybe Black Milk, and a couple local producers as well. And I got a couple local emcees on there too, like Southeast Slim’s gonna be on it [click to listen]. X.O.’s gonna be on it, and Tre from UCB’s gonna be on it as well.”

Back to the Feature is expected to drop in mid-March followed by the currently untitled debut album.  With Wale on the grind, you should know by now that the DMV is on the map.
