Eminem – Despicable Freestyle.
April 27, 2010

Eminem – Despicable Freestyle. Download HERE.

To be completely honest with you, we’ve kind of missed Em.

Not because he’s been gone … but because he just didn’t have that fire we grew up respecting. Even though his last album, Relapse, debuted at number one, ended up selling almost 2 million domestic copies and ultimately got him two Grammys, we thought there was something missing.

Then he came along by making an appearance on Drake’s “FOREVER” track to shut us the hell up.

The freestyle above has got us excited again. While he may not have anything to prove to any of us, it’s good to see that he’s keeping the ball rolling.

Note: in case you didn’t notice, Marshall lays down some fire over the beats to Drake’s “Over” and Lloyd Banks’ “Beamer, Benz or Bentley.”

You should know this by now.

Asher Roth feat. Chester French- As I Em (Full CDQ).
April 10, 2009

Asher Roth ft. Chester French- As I Em. Download HERE.

First we offered you the sneak peak at Asher addressing, through rhyme, his opinion of the Eminem comparisons.

Now the full CDQ track is available and we have updated the link for your pleasure.  The hook is still provided by fellow Caucasians, Chester French.

If this doesn’t make the critics go away, then Asleep in the Bread Aisle certainly will. And if they’re still around after that, it’s just needless hate.

Hit the jump for the lyrics from the first verse.

Eminem – We Made You (Video).

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Eminem – We Made You. Download song HERE.

He’s back. Are you ready?

This is exactly the Eminem that we were all first introduced to and eventually became fans of. You can’t help but to admit that you missed his sharp enunciation that even has your 89 year old grandmother understanding what he just said.

While we’re sure that the artist won’t keep from producing his share of sad, lyrical tracks, “We Made You” remind us of that trailer park rapper who had us all screaming “fuck the free world!”

The skanks women of Hollywood need to watch out.

Marshall Mathers is back and we highly doubt that he’s going pass up an opportunity to make fun of an “accidental” coochie flash or cocaine addiction.

Asher Roth- Lark on My Go Kart (Official Video).
March 29, 2009

There is really no need to continue updating you on Mr. Roth as he is now officially plastered all over MTV and the likes, but it’s a slow weekend so what the hell.

Ash accompanies the first single from his debut album, you should know the title and release date by now, ‘Lark on My Go Kart.”  The video in full animation that comes across as a combination between an R-rated Disney movie and an N64 game, but what else would you expect.

Making ridiculous music videos isn’t going to stop those Eminem comparisons anytime soon (see: “Just Lose It).

Eminem Relapsing Twice This Year.
March 5, 2009

Shady is officially making his comeback this year, with not one, but two albums scheduled for release in 2009.

Relapse, has been offically announced for release on May 19, with a video for the single “Crack a Bottle” coming out on April 7.

Everyone was expecting that to happen, but they weren’t expecting Em to drop a second album on us.  The rationale as explained by Marshall:

A lot of people were expecting Relapse to drop last year. Then Dre and I went back in the studio in September for a few days, and that turned into six months. We were on such a roll; we wound up with a ton of new music produced by Dre. Putting out Relapse 2 will let everyone get all of the best stuff.

That is nothing but good news.  Two Shady albums. Lots of Dre production.  Makes us not really care if 50’s album ever really comes out.  Read the official press release HERE.

Asher Roth- 20 Minute Freestyle.
March 2, 2009

Lots of people are still up in the air on Asher Roth.  It’s hard to deny that the young, pot-smoking, white kid from PA has talent, but some people continue to push the Eminiem comparisons on him, and almost expect him to become Em.

We showed you Ash’s “Song Cry” freestyle that he did while over in England.  Well, this freestyle is a little bit longer, as he rips and rhymes over a variety of tracks.

This all happened across the pond on Tim Westwood’s radio show, who like so many others, prodded Asher into rhyming over Em instrumentals and taking some shots at his fellow Cauasian rapper.

Whatever, you think of Asher, it’s hard as shit to freestyle for 20 minutes straight, and some of his lines are very impressive.   Judge for yourselves, if you have the time to spare.

Royce Da 5’9″- Part of Me (Video).

Royce Da 5’9″- Part of Me. Download HERE.

We bring to you the official video for Royce’s track “Part of Me,” of his much anticipated solo album Street Hop, set for release on April 21st.

The video is directed by Rik Cordero, who has seemingly done work for every major artist out there, and has been called “the only hip-hop director on the planet,” and his videos described as “miracles.”

The state of Michigan is making moves this year, with Detroit rapper’s Big Sean, Eminem, and Royce all set to release albums.  Along with the fire cooking in the DMV area, and as always Chicago, 2009 is shaping up to be a good year.

Royce Da 5’9…Seems Too Short.
January 5, 2009

Royce Da 5’9 is a Detroit rapper who has been in the game for over a decade.  He’s generally unknown because of his on-again off-again production schedule, but he got his start forming the collabo group Bad Meets Evil with fellow Dirty D-native Eminem.

The group only preleased a few tracks in the late 90’s, most notably “Scary Movie” and then disbanded due in part to Eminem’s growing fame and his association with D-12.  The duo did not end in good terms as Royce released diss tracks aimed at D12 and publicly feuded with Eminem.

Royce squashed his beef with both, and told HipHopDX:

“I been talking to Em, I didn’t even really wanna tell nobody.  That was kinda like a secret thing. I don’t really know where it’s gonna go. Right now we’re just really focusing on repairing the friendship. That’s the most important thing to me.”

After doing a stint in jail for a DUI arrest, the Detroit rapper is crawling back into the limelight. He released a 2008  mixtape The Bar Exam 2 and subsequent studio album release under the same name. Download the mixtape HERE.

He’s preparing his 5th studio album Street Hop set for release in March 2009, so be on the look out for that and hopefully a reunion with Em.

Be sure to check out the “ScaryMovie” track and a song off Royce’s mixtape after the jump.

Charles Hamilton.
December 21, 2008

While it may sound like the name of a butler, Charles Hamilton is the name of a pink headphone-wielding, bass guitar playing, Incubus-loving rapper from Cleveland.

Right now, Hamilton’s been getting a lot of heat for his affinity for sampling songs.

When I sample, I’m not just doing it to sound good. I’m trying to tell a story. To convey an emotion. If I sampled it, there is a reason I sampled it. I believe that music is based on moments, and that there are some moments that people may have missed back in the day.

Naturally, as a rapper trying to make it big, Hamilton idolizes big dogs like Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and  Eminem. This isn’t to ignore the fact that he also avidly follows Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Korn. (By the way, his tone sounds a lot like K’Naan, minus the talk about the troubles in Somalia)

Is he redefining hip hop? Not yet. But he’s most definitely giving it a try.

His debut album, The Pink Lavalamp, tries to show where Hamilton thinks hip hop is going. While it may not turn out to be the most dependable crystal ball, it’s definitely a good listen.

Download the mixtape HERE. Tracklist after the jump.

He’s Back?
December 4, 2008
