Theophilus London – I Want You [Mixtape].
April 30, 2010

You may or not remember Theophilus London’s last mixtape This Charming Mixtape.

Regardless, our favorite Brooklynite has just released his latest mixtape, I Want You.

Hosted by NYC’s Downtown Sweetheart, Va$tie, this highly anticipated mixtape has been on people’s minds ever since Theophilus London started tickling our fancy with “Life Of A Lover,” “A Stranger’s Heart” & “Soles of Fire.”

After teasing us worst than Roethlisberger’s favorite sorority girl, the mixtape finally dropped and we can’t help but think to ourselves that Theophilus London, is a star.

Including reworks of popular songs such as Ellen Goulding’s “Starry Eyed,” Tweet’s “Oops,” and Vampire Weekend’s “Giving Up The Gun,” (and some more tracks that we can’t put our finger on), the rest of the mixtape contains London’s typical concoction of 80’s heavy synths, African drum beats, rap-tronica, live instruments, dope lyrics, and smooth crooning.

Was that a bit complicated? What can we say, Theophilus London is the epitome of complicated…

and complicated has never sounded so good.

Kanye West – Flashing Lights x VH1 Storytellers.

Kanye West – Flashing Lights x VH1 Storytellers

People say Kanye West is transcending the definition of a typical “Hip-Hop” artist; this performance totally validates that claim.

Auto-Tune, “Tum-Tum,” 808’s. Kanye says he want’s to be this generation’s “Michael Jackson.” As far as we know, he’s in the lead for that title.

Make sure you watch more of his performances on and listen as Kanye explains on why:

“You either die a superhero, or live long enough to become the villian […] But, I’m chilllllin.”

Rebstar – Without You (feat. Trey Songz).

Rebstar – Without You (ft. Trey Songz)

We find ourselves discovering some dope hip hop from Sweden. Again.

Maybe its the fact that there isn’t any auto-tune.

Maybe its because Lil Weezy has yet to shake his dreads (while undeniably drinking Sizzurp from a Styrofoam cup) and boast that he’s an alien on their tracks and in their videos.

Rebstar is another rapper that has the credentials to practice law AND make hot tracks.  This, we like.

Despite not being signed to a major label, Rebstar is content with just making quality music.

This isn’t to say that he doesn’t have the industry watching his every move and a slew of major co-signers that are behind his music.

“Regardless if I come hard on a banger or if I’m pouring my heart out, you’ll hear the sincerity in my delivery. It’s all me.”

Thank the gods of hip-hop that what’s coming out his heart doesn’t know how to “Crank dat.”

Check out the video after the jump, and if you have a moment (you know you do) check out Rebstar’s Myspace.

Katrina Hates The Knux.
January 22, 2009

The Knux on Okay Player

The Knux are a New Orleans hip-hop group made up of two brothers siblings who started rapping in 2006.

They have quickly made a name for themselves with the songs “Bang Bang” and “Cappucino” featured in Entourage and Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay.

Group members Kintrell “Krispy Kream” Evans and Alvin “Rah Al Millio” Evans were displaced from their home in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and eventually landed in Hollywood Hills.

The transition inspired the production and release of their debut album Remind Me in 3 Days in 2008. We recommend you check out the album  iTunes or on their official website.

“Their debut album sounds like Outkast, Juvenile, Tha Pharcyde, and The Strokes concurrently blasting, out of a drop-top Jag on Sunset Blvd. on a Saturday night in the summer. Wrap your head around that.”

The duo has a full load of shows booked, all without a commercial single currently available. The Knux are set to make an impact in 2009.  Take a listen to a track off their album below and let us know what you think.

Chester French “Dance” Not on “Love The Future.”
January 20, 2009

More Chester French news.

Apparently, the song “Dance,” that we featured on this blog not to long ago, will NOT be featured on Chester French’s upcoming debut album, Love the Future.

Here it is, in case you don’t remember.

Chester French – Dance

Here are some comforting words from Chester French:

“So some of you guys might’ve seen that a song of ours called ‘Dance’ started hitting the blogs and all else a week or so ago. We’re glad you guys are loving the song. But we have to clear this up… It’s not a leaked track from ‘Love The Future’ (our debut LP,coming out this year). It’s actually one of the cuts off of our independently released EPChester French’s First Love”, which we recorded and released FIVE years ago! Back when we were a five piece, not a duo. So it’s crazy/awesome/funny/wild that it’s making the rounds right now.”

We’re a little disappointed too.
