Freddie Gibbs – The Ghetto (Video).
May 13, 2010

Freddie Gibbs, one of the XXL 2010 Freshman 10, drops his video called “The Ghetto.”

The video is well worth a watch, but if that doesn’t motivate you, then just throw your headphones on, vibe to Gangsta’ Gibbs’ smooth flow and let his lyrics bring you to “The Ghetto.”

The Sneaker Mirror.
April 23, 2009

Vodpod videos no longer available.
Did you know that there’s course being taught at Carnegie Mellon University that’s entitled “Sneakerology 101?”  The Pittsburgh college has legitimzed the art and history of the sneaker by teaching about its connection to hip hop, the internet and basketball … all in the clasroom.

There’s even a midterm where you have to design a sneaker using the elements taught throughout the semester.

You probably also don’t know about this Sneaker Mirror that reproduces pixels fed through a live webcam by using the images of over 100 of the most iconic sneakers. It’s kind of hard to explain.

Just watch the video.

This crazy concept was conceived and delivered by Jessy Chorng for Kicksburgh 2009 (the guys that created Sneakerology 101).

Chester French – Jacques Jams, Vol. 1: Endurance.
April 8, 2009

00-clintonsparkschesterfrenchnmcjacquesjamsvol1endurance-front

Chester French & Clinton Sparks – Love Game Remix (ft. Lady GaGa)

Chester French & Clinton Sparks – Starting A Band – Two Mans (ft. Solange)

Chester French & Clinton Sparks – I’m So Tall (ft. Bun B., Talib Kweli & Mickey Factz)

Chester French has really gone out of its way to point out how this isn’t a mixtape. It’s a free album.

With 24 tracks and collabs with legends and soon-to-be hip hop royalty, it really doesn’t matter what you call this damn thing. Just listen to it.

According to D.A. and Max, Jacques Jams, Vol. 1: Endurance chronicles the past six years of their lives. It’s also the first new music the duo have released since 2007. From the Harvard campus to the office of Pharrell Williams.

Sounds like a dream, right? Well. It’s just another day in the life of Chester French.

This free album would have never come to fruition if it wasn’t for the persistence of DJ Clinton Sparks. The Harvard grads agreed to create it because C. Sparks just wouldn’t stop pestering them.

Guest spots: Jermaine Dupri, Diddy, Pharrell, Pusha, Talib Kweli, Bun B., The Mad Rapper, Kardinal Offishall, N.O.R.E, Jadakiss, Janelle Monae, Cassie, Wale, Solange, Lady Gaga, and Mickey Factz.

Enough said. Download the entire thing HERE.  Tracklist after the jump, per usual.

Christian Rich – Countdown.

Countdown

Christian Rich – Countdown (U.S. Single). Download HERE.

After Kehinde (one half of Christian Rich) sent us this track today, we asked him how he was doing.

“Extremely well. God is good.” You can’t really get any better than that. Let us explain why.

Kehinde and his twin brother, Taiwo, actually immigrated to the U.S. from the Nigerian slums. Their living conditions were so bad that sewer pipes literally ran through their home. It probably didn’t help that at the age of six, the twins’ mother became extremely sick.

We spent a good chunk of our childhood there; enough to remember the hardships. That experience made us who we are right now. We saw so many negative, as well as positive things, that when we came to the States it was a joke to us.

Screw The Great Gatsby. Christian Rich is the new face of the American Dream … with a hip hop twist.

Adapting the group’s name from famed designer Christian Dior, Taiwo’s “Christian” (since he’s the main face of the duo’s music) while Kehinde’s “Rich” (as he takes care of all the business). Get it?

While both brothers produce all of the beats and vocals together, they think it’s better to give their audience just one person to focus on. Kehinde explains:

I noticed when there is one person to focus on, people’s attention span is longer and they assimilate to that better. Whenever there’s a duo, one of them goes solo anyway.

Now that you know Christian Rich a bit better, you’re going to appreciate their music even more.

KiD CuDi for Famous Stars and Straps’ 10th Anniversary.
April 7, 2009

Vodpod videos no longer available.

It’s pretty hard to believe that Famous Stars and Straps has been around for 10 years now.

We feel like it really got its exposure when Travis Barker (part owner of FSAS) had that reality show Meet the Barkers with then wife, Shanna Moakler.

While his marriage with the former Miss USA has broken up, Barker’s clothing line is still going strong. In the video above, KiD CuDi sits down with a camera and talks about how DJ AM and Travis Barker were one of the first to really support his career.

Cudi also quickly talks about his album debuting this summer, Man on the Moon, and his upcoming HBO series How to Make it in America.

Eminem – We Made You (Video).

Eminem – We Made You. Download song HERE.

He’s back. Are you ready?

This is exactly the Eminem that we were all first introduced to and eventually became fans of. You can’t help but to admit that you missed his sharp enunciation that even has your 89 year old grandmother understanding what he just said.

While we’re sure that the artist won’t keep from producing his share of sad, lyrical tracks, “We Made You” remind us of that trailer park rapper who had us all screaming “fuck the free world!”

The skanks women of Hollywood need to watch out.

Marshall Mathers is back and we highly doubt that he’s going pass up an opportunity to make fun of an “accidental” coochie flash or cocaine addiction.

Outasight – I Can’t Call It (Produced by Dante Lewis)

Outasight – Fame & Fortune Remix (ft. The Kid Daytona & Donny Goines)

It’s finally here.

When we interviewed Outasight, you heard him talk about him dropping this mixtape before leaving for SXSW. Well, here you go.

Keep in mind that this is the prequel to OU’s upcoming debut album From Here to Eternity. If this prequel features collabs with the likes of The Kid Daytona, Cook Classics, Print and Harlem’s Cash … one can only imagine the fire the actual album’s going to bring.

It’s brought to everyone by Mick Boogie and ThePreePlayShow.com.

Enough talk. Download the joint HERE. Tracklist after the jump.

Asher Roth – Lark On My Go-Kart. Download HERE.

DJ Greenlantern was kind enough to leak Mr. Roth’s intro to his debut album Asleep in the Bread Aisle. It was produced by Oreon Yoel and David Appleteon.

It’s nice how Asher Roth keeps to his roots and starts off the album with a complete freestyle. Refreshing, no?

Asleep in the Bread Aisle is set to come out on 4/20 so mark your calendars. (We’re sure that some of you won’t need any reminders for a national holiday of such magnitude).

Regardless …

Bye, bye, Cudi?
March 16, 2009

kid-cudi2

All of us may be bidding Kid Cudi farewell about as quickly as we greeted him. The Cleveland-artist is showing where his loyalties lie as he has announced that he will forever be quitting the rap game soon after the release his his first album, Man on the Moon: The Guardians.

Apparently the rapper has been getting a lot of heat for acting “Hollywood” and his close friends have claimed that he has changed.

AFTER THE RELEASE OF MY FIRST LP THIS SUMMER, IAM NOT MAKING ANY MORE SOLO ALBUMS. IAM FALLIN BACK ON BEING A ARTIST. THE DRAMA THAT COMES WITH IT IS MORE OVERWHELMING THAN THE SHIT I WAS DEALING WIT WHEN I WAS PISS POOR BROKE. MY FRIENDS GET MAD AT ME, SAY IVE CHANGED, ONE OF THE ONLY HOMIES I GOT IN THIS GAME, WALE, IS WORRIED ABOUT ME CUZ OF SHIT HE HEARS. LIKE WTF? WHO CAN SAY IM BEIN HOLLYWOOD? IM NOT AROUND ANYONE BUT PLAIN PAT AND EMILE. WHO CAN SAY THAT SHIT? MUTHAFUCKAS TALKIN SHIT HERE AND THERE, SPREADIN RUMORS, MAKIN JOKES, TRYNA JUDGE ME, AND FOR WHAT? DOES MY MUSIC POKE FUN AT OTHERS? DO I TALK SHIT ABOUT PEOPLE N MY MUSIC? I ALREADY WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL ONCE, AND GOT EXPELLED CUZ IT WASNT FOR ME. IMA DROP OUT THIS SHIT BEFORE NIGGAZ TRY AND CRUCIFY ME.

Is this going to be Jay-Z “quitting” or Favre “retiring?”

We hope so. You’ll be the first to know regardless.

First, you catch us putting up The Fray up on our site. Now … Nickle Eye of the Strokes?

Have some faith in us, will you?

Nickel Eye (Nikolai Fraiture) meets up with one of THE hottest up-and-comers and the two team up with THE hottest producer in the game. Get ready for a laid back track that features a rather Wyclef Jean-esque Wale (without the accent, of course).

Regardless. Hit this joint up. You’ll be glad you did.

Promise.

Kanye West – Welcome to Hearbreak (ft. KiD CuDi)

While this isn’t the next single, Kanye went ahead and released the video for “Welcome to Heartbreak.” Naturally, KiD CuDi is spotted hanging around the screen.

It’s important to note that the video was directed by Nabil Elderkin. He was the creative genius behind videos for the likes of Will.I.Am, the Black Eyed Peas and other Kanye videos like “Champion.”

All of those videos have been quite the resume builder … and this one’s no exception. Check it out.

Exile – For the Kids. Download HERE.

This track wasn’t included in Exile’s last album, Radio.

The interesting thing about the album?

It’s 100% instrumentals and every song was sampled from local Los Angeles FM and AM stations. Exile says that the entire process took him the better of eight years to complete.

Seriously. Every single part of the album was sampled from the radio.

Always everything had to be from the radio. I wouldn’t cheat. Couldn’t cheat.

I got 808s from the bass records that are constantly playing. I’m really glad there was doubt in the beginning. It made me make it what it is now.

Get at it.
