Lupe Fiasco – Love Letter to the Beat & Horn Synth.
April 26, 2010

Lupe Fiasco – Love Letter to the Beat (Ft. Alicia Keys). Download HERE.

Lupe Fiasco – Horn Synth (Ft. Pharrell) SNIPPET. Download HERE.

Sounds like the first of these two was actually set to release with Keys’ album As I Am back in 2007. Produced by Chad Hugo of N.E.R.D., the track was swept under the rug and finally released over the weekend.

Both of these songs are rumored to make the final cut for Lupe’s upcoming album, LASERS.

Here’s to the hardest working man on tour right now.

Moreover, here’s to the hardest working blog on the internets right now!

Lupe Fiasco – Shining Down (ft. Matthew Santos) [Snippet].
March 30, 2009

With all the current and oh so exciting news about CuDi, Asher, Wale, Bobby Ray and etc., it left us wondering, what happened to our boy Lupe?

We think its fair to say that Lupe was the first recognizable artist to popularize, “being a nerd.” Despite the slew of artists that are embracing the concept of liking comic books and japanese manga, Lupe remains the numero uno to blaze tracks with his metaphorical rhyme schemes and incite a change among Hip Hop which has ultimately accepted this skateboarding nerd and propelled the genre to unbeknown territory.

If your trying to argue  that point, let’s go.

Anyways, Mr. Food and Liqour aka The Cool hits his fans up with a snippet of his new music and I’m more excited about hearing his new music than Michael Vick is about getting out of jail.

Thanks to GoWhereHipHop for the snippet. Enjoy.

New Lupe Album Update.
March 24, 2009

Alright, so a month or so ago, we told you the unfortunate news about LupE.N.D‘s indefinite postponement.  Well that has now turned into an all out cancellation of the project.

Lupe, announcing his plans through his new Twitter page, has renamed his upcoming project, originally titled The Great American Rap Album to We Are Lasers. In the words of Lupe himself, the new title:

Comes from some repressed high school outcast shit…blended amidst And He Gets The Girl ambitions. I’ve been working for about a week and around 60% done.

What guest appearances can we expect?:

There’s not too many hip-hoppers on this one…got a slot for Bun B though…contemplating CuDi.

Despite the disappointment surrounding the cancellation of the third part of his original trilogy of albums, there is still the good news that he his aiming to put out two albums this year.

Oh, and apparently, he’s still retiring, but that word has lost meaning in recent weeks..see the post below.  Anyway, more news, good and bad from the Lupe camp, and looking forward to any album leaks that may come out.  Keep it locked.

The Five One x Lupe Fiasco- Fighters Remix.
March 19, 2009

The Five One x Lupe Fiasco- Fighters Remix. Download HERE.

Hopefully, you’ve started to pick up on the trend that Thursday mornings bring you the weekly Deuce Burger from the Virginia-based group The Five One.  This is the 1th of 51 remix tracks from their year long album 5109: The Remix Album.

This week the group remixes one of the more unknown and underrated Lupe songs from The Cool, “Fighter” featuring vocalist Matthew Santos.  The lowkey beat is a perfect fit and allows the group to their intellectual and thought-provoking lyric, while preserving the originality of the Lupe song.

In fact, Lupe’s verse still remains at the end, although it is now a bit outdated as he references LUPE.N.D, which as we all know as been indefintely delayed.

Another good listen from The Five One, and continue to keep an eye on them as they are working on another album and preparing for a summer tour.

Lupe Fiasco Live at USF.
February 22, 2009

As noted below, the weekend is generally pretty slow music wise.  But fortunately, Lupe gave us something to write about when he killed it at a performance at University of South Florida last night.

He performs two of the best, and rarely captured live songs, off The Cool, “Go Go Gadget Flow” and “Dumb it Down.”

Good to see him still putting energy into into his work after the indefinite postponement of LUPE.N.D, but we can’t wait The Great American Rap Album to drop in June.

LUPE.N.D Postponed Indefinitely.
January 30, 2009

No, we’re not playing tricks with you.  Lupe Fiasco’s much anticipated album has been delayed indefinitely and will not be coming out as planned this summer.

Speculation is that there are issues between his vision for the album and what the label execs had in mind.

From the mouth of Lupe himself on the FNF website:

Due to circumstances beyond my control…the album roll out has changed radically…LUPE.N.D. has been postponed indefinitely!!! As a matter of fact consider it canceled until further notice!!! I hate the music business…but I love music…Grammy’s Here We Come

Don’t go jumping off of a tall building yet there is some good news.  In the place of LUPE.N.D., Lupe will be releasing a different album titled The Great American Rap Album in June.  Word has it there will two additional albums before the eventual release of his retirement record.

No B.S. See ya’ll in June and again in December and again next June…LUPE.N.D. right after that…when the liberation comes!!!

So, it’s not all bad news as we can expect some new Lupe this summer, but it’s a shame when record labels get in the way of an artist’s creative expression.

Deep Rooted – Billie Jean Theme (Video)
January 28, 2009

Deep Rooted – Billie Jean Theme. Download HERE.

It’s always a pleasure to find indie artists that are absolutely killing it … completely on their own.

Even without a record label, Deep Rooted (made up of Mr. Brady, Johaz, Brea, and DJ Artistic) has been making a name for itself on the west coast since 2004.

If you’re still not convinced that we’re a good judge of talent (really?), DR has performed with the likes of  Lupe Fiasco, Common and Wu-Tang Clan. Not bad, right?

The group’s originality, as is evident in the video above, comes in part from their musical influences:

All good music that moves us. Anything that you go through or see makes you what you are. Our influence comes from the mid 80’s and 90’s – that’s when hip hop was still pure and in its organic form…when Tribe Called Quest dropped, when Nas first album dropped…basically when hip hop felt good, you know?!

Yesterday the group released its third album, D.E.E.P R.O.O.T.E.D, which is available on iTunes if you dig the group’s sound.

Check out a the track below and if you like what you hear, Support these guys!

The Clipse Are Back.

Malice and Pusha T are set to release their third studio album Till the Casket Drops in January. It will feature production from a number of big names, including Kayne, The Neptunes and J.U.S.T.I.C.E.

In preparation for their junior album, the duo  released a mixtape entitled Road to Till the Casket Drops, which features your usual dope Clipse lyrics over a variety of instrumentals.

In addition to priming fans for the upcoming album, the mixtape also promotes their new Play Clothes clothing line.  Play Clothes describes its merchandise as a “range of apparel admissible whether your playground is the streets of Virginia or the beaches of St. Tropez.”

Trilly & Truly.
December 7, 2008

Lupe Fiasco’s clothing line, Trilly & Truly, has previewed its winter collection in the Japanese magazine WARP.

If you can’t afford to book a ticket to their Harajuku flagship store this instant, I guess you’ll just have to wait for the clothes to hit American boutiques.

From what we’ve seen so far, fans can expect a varsity jacket, tees, a down jacket and jeans. Following BBC/Ice Cream and Bape’s lead, all of Trilly & Truly’s stuff is limited edition.

That means you have to act fast.
