Jay Rock feat. Busta Rhymes- Beat a Rapper Down. Download HERE.

Before the inevitable weekend music lull sets in, we’re going to keep hitting you with jams.  We’ve been bringing you up to date with the newest face of the West Coast over the past two weeks.

You may remember that Jay Rock previously hooked up with Busta on the “All My Life Remix” along with The Game and that original track featured Lil Wayne.  How does Jay attribute being blessed with such impressive guest appearances?

Just networking. I might catch them at a club, you know what I’m saying. Since I got a deal, I’ve been traveling a lot of places.

The deal he speaks of his signing with Top Dawg Entertainment, a division of  Warner Brothers.  When he was leaving a show at Universal Studios, he had his first encounter with Weezy, which went down like this:

I said to him, ‘Yo. I’m Jay Rock, the hottest thing out there.’ I asked him right then, ‘I’d like to work with you some day.’ He said, ‘Whatever. All you have to do is give me a call. I’m a phone call away.’ He was being real.

Not a bad way to start things off.  His upfront and confident approach has done him well as he has features from Wayne, The Game, Busta, Will.i.am, Ne-Yo, and Trey Songz lined up for his debut album, Follow Me Home, coming out this summer.

You should know this by now.

Kanye West – Welcome to Hearbreak (ft. KiD CuDi)

While this isn’t the next single, Kanye went ahead and released the video for “Welcome to Heartbreak.” Naturally, KiD CuDi is spotted hanging around the screen.

It’s important to note that the video was directed by Nabil Elderkin. He was the creative genius behind videos for the likes of Will.I.Am, the Black Eyed Peas and other Kanye videos like “Champion.”

All of those videos have been quite the resume builder … and this one’s no exception. Check it out.

Black Eyed Peas- Peapod Foundation Benefit 2009.
February 6, 2009

Founded by will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas and Polo Molina of Grassroots Productions, The Peapod Foundation aims to create social change for children through the universal language of music.

The Peapod Foundation strives to unite different cultures, countries and people so that, with everyone’s help,  they can help provide many of the much-needed supplies that many people are dependent upon.

Unsurprisingly, Will.I.Am emphasizes the learning and teaching of music/art expression in this organization.

So if you like music. Despite the genre or artist, help support the next Soulja Boy Lupe Fiasco, or Will.I.Am.

Support the movement, and make sure you send all of your spare change to this special cause.

To unite people on a global scale via the universal language of music

To generate attention & build awareness towards shared goals

To bridge cultural boundaries and help children in need

To join together local and global communities

To make a difference in our world For our children, every day.”

Make sure you check out the video from Lupe performing at this concert.

Nat King Cole x The Roots x Nas.
February 5, 2009

For all you youngin’s out there who are saying “who the hell is Nat King Cole”, be ashamed of yourselves.  You should have at least seen the Chappelle’s show skit about him. But that was Chappelle’s show.

In reality Nat was one of the most prominent jazz musicians and singers of his time and on March 10th a tribute album titled Re: Generation will be released in his honor.

The album will feature previously unreleased Nat King Cole songs starring features from some of today’s most respected artists including Nas, The Roots, will.i.am, Ceelo and Izza Kizza among others.

In the video trailer for the album, his daughter has this to say:

The album is all about bridging the so called gap between the generations through music with Nat on the mic coupled with all of these extraordinary contemporary artists.

An interesting concept to say the least.  Take a listen to the two tracks below and let us know what you think.

MURS  has been in the game since ’99, when he first formed the group Living Legends with Mystik Journeyman.  Since then he’s collaborated with 9th wonder and Slug from Atmosphere to name a few.

You’re not going to have much trouble picking MURS (born Nick Carter) out in a crowd … nor will you in the studio.   He has the unique ability to mix solid beats with witty, yet, socially conscious lyrics, making you think while nodding your head.

His lyrics are directly inspired by his life exeriences.  In an age where filesharing and illegal downloading are said to be ruining the music industry, MURS doesn’t seem to care. That works for us.

“I don’t want my fans to feel bad if you downloaded the album. I really don’t give a fuck. Hopefully you can take something away from what I said and find something to laugh about. That’d be great.”

MURS is currently touring the West Coast and Australia, following a similar tour schedule as Wale.

Here’s one of the tracks and official video off his new CD, MURS for President. The song samples The Green Hornet’s theme song … which was popularized in the Crazy 88s fight scene from Kill Bill Vol. 1:

Oh. And he stops one of his concerts to pull a random girl from the crowd and make out with her. Nice? (Happens at 2:09)
